God bless the Lupin dub.
ahaha yeah my feelings for that character have totally calmed down [sees picture of them] ahaha never mind. aha. ha. i lied. i fucking lied. i lied so much ahahaha i’m a fucking liar i have no control in my life ahaha help me
So I went to see The Boxtrolls today having been very excited about all of the publicity, the general theme of the film, and all of the posters I saw of what appeared to be same gender families.
I left the cinema in tears because of it. It’s very transmisogynist. I do not advise anyone, especially trans women, to see this film. I’ll explain why below.
TW FOR THE CONTENT BELOW. It contains spoilers and descriptions of transmisogyny.
uh, people who crossdress =/= trans.
would it have been terrible if snatcher had been dressing like frou frou because that is how they identified and then the town harassed them when the big reveal happened and snatcher turned murderous? YES
but like you said, “No real clear reason for this is given, other than that Snatcher is so desperate to fit in with the so called “white hats” […] there is really NO REASON to have Archibald Snatcher disguise himself as Madame Frou Frou.” - exactly, there is no reason, he was doing it just to get close to the MC and kill him - not for identity reasons, not for dysphoria reasons, not because snatcher KNEW he was a woman and not a man, but because he wanted to fit into a MATERIALISTIC CLUB
the villain is literally a man in a dress who has sexist actions directed towards him
not a woman who was outed to her community and sexually harassed throughout the film
I’m sorry you were triggered and I’m trying my best not to undermine your interpretation of the film, but this view that “a man in a dress = a transwoman” is SO DAMN DAMAGING FOR A VARIETY OF REASONS……
^^^ The one response I’m going to reblog out of this entire post.
Yeah, I honestly think this situation is being blown way out of proportion. But I mean, we all know how tumblr can be sometimes…
There’s a chair right there and he just sits on the ground
